| The Ontario Student Transcript (OST) |
| It was developed in 1983 to provide an official and consistent summary of a student’s successful achievement in Ontario Secondary School credit courses. As of September1, 1999, the OST will include all courses successfully completed in grades 9 and 10 with percentage grades and credits earned. It will also include all grade 11 and 12 courses taken or attempted. Senior students have 5 days after the distribution of the first provincial report card to withdraw from a course without it appearing on heir official Ontario Transcript. |

Course Information |
| |
| The course that guidance offers is a grade 10 Career Studies Course coded GLC201. |
| |
| The career studies course is a half credit course. The other half credit course required in Grade 10 is Civics, which is offered through the History Department. Each half credit course lasts nine weeks, and the two are completed in one semester. The mark appearing on your midterm report card is your final mark for the first of the two courses you attended this semester. The career studies course is designed to guide students through an inquiry process that they will use to develop their personal/career/life plan. Through a variety of activities, students will have the opportunity to explore their personal strengths and interests, post-secondary options, learn job search techniques as well as many other transferable skills to equip themselves for their futures. Their progress will be assessed based on the four categories (and a final evaluation) of achievement as outlined in the Career Studies, Guidance and Career Education curriculum document. For more information please refer to the course outline. |

Attendance at all special event, group or individual project presentations, and other announced sessions is mandatory. Attendance at all general class sessions is required. Excessive absences will detract from your ability to achieve a high grade in this course, and could result in your withdrawal.
|
| |
| Grading: Your entire course grade will depend on your performance on the requirements set forth above. There is no extra-credit work. Thus, you should plan to attend scheduled classes, complete all assigned reading, study both lecture notes and the reading, work hard to complete all individual and group assignments, and participate actively in all class discussions. |

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT HOURS |
| |
|
| |
In accordance with policy from the Ontario Ministry of Education, students who begin secondary school during or after the 1999-2000 school year must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities as part of the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The YRDSB believes that community involvement encourages students to develop an understanding of civic responsibility and the role they can play in supporting and strengthening their communities. As well, such involvement can assist students in increasing their awareness of community needs, and in making a positive difference.
Before selecting an activity, students should review the eligible categories of activities and the ineligible activities listed in the YRDSB Community Involvement Information Guide or go to http://www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca and under Quick Links select Regional Course Directory. It is also advisable to check with a guidance counsellor before volunteering.
All activities must take place outside of scheduled class time and must be performed without pay. Students should aim to complete forty hours by mid-May of their final year in order to participate in our graduation ceremony in June. |
