Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education |
| |
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences. The YRDSB remains committed to the inclusion of antiracist and equity education in its policies and programs.
Dr. G.W. Williams S.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board. |

School Council: |
| |
School Councils play such a fundamental role across the York Region District School Board in ensuring student success.
Dr. G.W. Williams S.S.’s school council is a dynamic advisory body made up of parents, community members, teachers, school administrative staff and students. Our objectives include helping to create and maintain an environment which is conducive to improve student learning, enhancing communication with parents, teachers and students, and developing a common vision for our school.
Meeting on a monthly basis, our Council receives regular updates from the Principal and other senior staff on important issues at the School. We are consulted on an ongoing basis by the School administration, and School Council members provide critical input into policies and procedures affecting the education and well-being of the students at Williams.
Parents and community members are always welcome to attend our meetings, or to send comments or suggestions.
For more information regarding our School Council, visit The Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School’s website at www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca/~gwwss or call us at 905-727-3131, ext. 152 |

Student Leadership |
| |
Student leadership is the foundation of the many school initiatives that benefit our student population and community. The Williams’ Students’ Council is an elected group that represents the views of the student body and coordinates both social events (e.g. dances, spirit days, the Prom and Semi-Formal) and fund-raising events (e.g. food and toy drives, Kisses for Cassie, Tsunami Relief coin blitz) for the school. The Williams’ Athletic Council organizes and manages sporting events, and promotes athletics within the school through tournament sponsorship and an “Athlete of the Week” program. . Students also demonstrate leadership at Williams as members of the Music and Drama councils, and as participants in annual events such as the Santa Claus Parade, “Trick-or-Eat” program, and Operation Christmas Child. Overseeing all clubs, councils, and activity groups at school is the Williams’ President’s Council, who meet once a month to discuss and organize all ongoing and future leadership activities.
